A 30-year-old man was issued a driving prohibition after police found him in possession of crack cocaine, drug pipes and multiple knives during a traffic stop earlier in October.

According to Mission RCMP’s weekly “Community Connection” crime recap, an officer stopped an orange minivan with a burned-out headlight on Oct. 9 around 11 p.m. near Lougheed Highway and Haig Street.

In addition to the drugs and knives in his possession, police say the drive also showed signs of drug impairment.

RCMP issued an inspection order for various vehicle defects.

The incident was one of 316 calls for service for Mission RCMP from Oct. 7 to 13.

The detachment also issued a 90-day driving prohibition and 30-day vehicle impound for an impaired driver on Oct. 7.

According to the release, a witness reported seeing a man leave a liquor store in Mission and drink from a small before driving away.

An officer discovered the vehicle parked at the driver’s residence and spoke with the driver, who admitted consuming alcohol.

“Drivers are reminded that impaired-driving charges can still be issued even if a driver is no longer behind the wheel when located by police,” Mission RCMP said.

Meanwhile,  a triple-axle flat-deck truck crashed into the ditch on Bell Street on Oct. 9. The driver sustained minor injuries and was transported to hospital.

“It appears as though the truck drifted onto the soft shoulder of the roadway, which gave way, causing the truck to slide into the ditch,” police said.

The City of Mission also attended since the collision caused oil to spill into a nearby creek.
