A package of drugs that was recently seized at Fraser Valley Institution in Abbotsford is estimated to have an institutional value of $16,000.

A press release Thursday (April 24) from the Correctional Service of Canada (CSC) states that the package was seized "on the perimeter" of the multi-level federal institution for women on Wednesday, April 16.

The contraband included cannabis concentrate, crystal methamphetamine, fentanyl, MDMA and a number of opiate pills, according to CSC.

"The police have been notified and the institution is investigating," the press release states.

CSC says it uses a number of tools to prevent drugs from entering its institutions, including ion scanners and drug-detector dogs to search buildings, personal property, inmates and visitors.
