The Fraser Valley Regional District is gauging interest in a community water service for Hatzic Island and Eagle Road.
A survey is now open for residents of the Area G neighbourhoods to provide feedback on interest in connecting to water service and their tolerance of potential fees.
According to the survey introduction, the current water source for Hatzic Island and Eagle Road is groundwater.
“Residents of the area have contacted the FVRD regarding water quality and quantity over the years requesting the FVRD look into bringing community water to the area due to ongoing issues with existing private wells,” the survey introduction reads.
FVRD staff will report back on results through the “HaveYourSay” platform after the survey is complete.
If Hatzic Island and Eagle Road residents have an interest in a water system, the district would consult with residents, in addition to the neighbouring municipalities of Abbotsford and Mission. According to the survey introduction, the district would determine the potential configuration of a water system and seek grant-funding opportunities when available.
“If all of the steps noted above are achieved, the FVRD will come back to residents and present an opportunity to formally vote in favour or against a community water system,” the introduction reads.
The survey is available at https://haveyoursay.fvrd.ca/hatzic-island-eagle-road-water-feasibility with the deadline set for Jan. 10, 2025 at 12 p.m.
