Last week, Cherry Hill Elementary principal Rob Clark posted in a local Facebook group after several bags of garbage were piled on top of the school dumpster.

A Mission principal posted on social media last week about ongoing dumping on school grounds.

Garbage has been piled on top of the Cherry Hill Elementary School dumpster weekly since principal Rob Clark arrived at the school under two years ago.

“Since I've gotten there, we've always had people dumping stuff in our garbage cans,” Clark said.

Dumping has occurred in the main garbage cans, the field, and near the dumpster. After the summer break, Clark says someone dumped their discarded planter pots on the concrete next to the bin.  Clark says the dumping usually occurs on weekends or Tuesday nights after user groups leave.

The dumping takes extra time to clean and also serves as an attractant for pests and bears.

“The other part that really bothers me is how it treats where the kids are going to school. It kind of demonstrates a lack of caring for those kids – I feel that they deserve to be treated better than that. And  people just throwing their garbage there kind of demonstrates that they don't really care. And I think that's unfair to the kids,” Clarke said.

He says other Mission schools have similar issues because “it seems convenient” for dumpers.

Last week, Clark posted in a local Facebook group about the issue. It came after several bags of garbage were piled on top of the school dumpster.

He says no one's come forward but there has been no dumping over the weekend.
