Highway patrol seeks witnesses to fatal crashes in Chilliwack, Hope

B.C. Highway Patrol has put out the call for witnesses and dashcam footage from several fatal collisions across the province.

The four incidents include the six-vehicle crash on Highway 1 in Chilliwack, and the Highway 1 crash in Hope, one in Fort Nelson and one in the Northern Rockies.

"We need to find out what happened to our victims and bring closure to the families. Even the smallest piece of information matters," said spokesperson Cpl. Melissa Jongema of the BC Highway Patrol.

"Please download your dashcam (footage) even if you don’t think it is relevant," the highway patrol officer said. "If you are a witness who hasn’t already spoken to police or you have dashcam, please contact BC Highway Patrol."

They are trying to close files on collision investigations in Chilliwack, Hope, Nelson, and the Northern Rockies.

Call the Highway Patrol in Chilliwack at (604) 702-4039 for the incidents in Chilliwack and Hope, in Fort Nelson at (250) 774-3883, or Nelson at (250) 354-5180.

They are looking for footage and witnesses to the crashes, including up to an hour before the actual collisions occurred.

The Chilliwack crash was eastbound on Highway 1 east of the Vedder Canal Bridge, Chilliwack, between 1:30 p.m. and 2:35 p.m. on Tuesday August 6, 2024. Witnesses can contact Const. Travis SINGH at (604) 702-4039 or email: travis.singh@rcmp-grc.gc.ca;

The Hope incident was in the area of Highway 1 at exit 165 in Hope, westbound and eastbound, on Monday July 29, 2024, between midnight and 1:00 AM.

The third crash was on Highway 6 between Hills and Summit Lake between 5 p.m. and 6 p.m. on July 5, 2024. Anyone with dash cam footage can contact highway patrol in Nelson at (250) 354-5180.

BC Highway Patrol officials also want to speak with witnesses to a collision on Highway 97 near Dawson Way in which a pedestrian died. Officers are looking for witnesses who did not speak to police and dash cam footage between 2 a.m. and 4 a.m. on August 11, 2024.
