Mission had an array of items fall off trucks last week.

Five mattresses and a tire fell off a truck on Ferndale Avenue, a variety of boxes and junk on Lougheed Highway near Silverdale Avenue, and three exercise balls rolling along on the Mission Bridge.

Ramps also fell on Keystone Avenue – including a car reportedly driving with a ramp dragging underneath it.

Mission RCMP advised drivers to properly secure their loads in the detachment's weekly "Community Connection" crime recap.

The fallen items were among the 266 calls for service for the Mission RCMP between Oct. 21 and 27.

The detachment also responded to a workplace accident that occurred overnight on Oct. 27.

A 59-year-old truck driver was adjusting the trailer on his semi-truck while it was parked at a grocery store in Mission.  The trailer rolled back and caused a serious but non-life-threatening head injury to the man.

He was transported to hospital and police say the investigation is ongoing.

Meanwhile, multiple impaired drivers were taken off the roads last week by local Mounties.

On Saturday (Oct. 26) night, police issued a 90-day driving prohibition  and a 30-day vehicle impound to a 32-year-old Mission man.

An officer near Cedar Street and Tunbridge Avenue saw a white Honda CRV driving erratically and pulled it over to check the driver’s sobriety.

According to police,  the driver said he was "just practicing his parking".

The man failed two roadside screening tests and received the prohibition.

A few hours later, another local Mountie saw a white Mercedes convertible fail to stop at a stop sign on Moffat Avenue near Dewdney Trunk Road.

"The vehicle took a long time to stop after being signalled to pull over, and scraped into the curb when it parked," Mission RCMP said.

The 46-year-old male driver also failed a roadside screening test and had his licence prohibited and his vehicle impounded.
