Mission Fire Rescue Service recently welcomed a new group of paid-on-call recruits as last year's group nears the end of training.
Almost a dozen new recruits joined the MFRS ranks and began training with first aid. The recruits will be dispersed through the three fire stations.
The group will begin learning core firefighting skills in the new year until April.
"The schedule is challenging, with instruction almost every weekend and some weeknights, including written tests, lectures, hands-on skills practice, and more," MFRS said in a social media post.
Meanwhile, last year's MFRS recruits completed one of the final pieces of their basic education last weekend.
According to a separate social media post from the department, the recruits honed their skills and learned new techniques during live fire training at the Maple Ridge JIBC campus.
