The Mission Leisure Centre’s weight room is getting an upgrade.

The investment from the City of Mission includes replacement of strength equipment, new flooring, fresh paint, and a more efficient layout.

According to a news release, funding for the upgrades came from the Gaming Reserve.

The new Life Fitness and Hammer Strength equipment replaces the Leisure Centre’s most popular equipment. It also adds a glute bridge, pec deck/rear delt, ski erg, an additional stair mill and more.

Other new equipment has increased accessibility at the weight room, including a SciFit featuring a removable seat for direct wheelchair access.

“Energy efficiency was also top of mind during this upgrade. Many of the new bikes and ellipticals, for example, are non-powered and use the energy generated by pedalling to power up the features of the machine,” the news release reads.

Future additions to the weight room will include a leg raise, abdominal crunch machine, rope pull and more.

Mission Mayor Paul Horn and Councillors Carol Hamilton, Ken Herar and Jag Gill received a tour of the improved fitness centre.

“Our council has made it a priority to improve the experience of people using our parks and recreation, facilities, so it is exciting to see how the changes and new equipment in our weight room are accomplishing that goal,” said in the news release.

“Most of the equipment in the facility had not been updated since the renovations of the Leisure Centre more than 20 years ago, so the impact of this new equipment is remarkable.”
