A Mission nurse is facing discipline due to a “lack of knowledge” of patient care.
According to a public notice, a consent agreement was approved on Monday (June 3) between B.C. College of Nurses and Midwives and Mission nurse Simaranjot Kaur.
The discipline stems from practice issues that occurred between April 29 and June 28 of last year. Issues included a lack of knowledge regarding patient assessment and vital signs, signs and symptoms of the deteriorating patient, medications, medication administration, skin care, time management, and documentation.
Before returning to work, Kaur voluntarily agreed to complete remedial education in health and physical assessment, diabetes and insulin management, medication administration, clinical decision-making, documentation, and communication.
Terms of the agreement also include participation in a robust orientation, the development of a learning plan and supervision of Kaur’s nursing practice for a minimum of 14 weeks.
For six months, Kaur is also prohibited from being the sole regulated health professional on duty, providing oversight to student nurses, orienting new staff members, working for more than one employer, and working on more than one nursing unit.
