A nine-year-old girl was hit by a car while crossing Cedar Street with her bicycle on Aug. 29.
At about 6:30 p.m., first responders in Mission were called to the intersection of Cedar Street and Cherry Avenue, where the child was struck.
An off-duty firefighter witnessed the collision, and immediately provided medical assistance to the girl. She was airlifted to hospital, and her injuries were determined to be non-life-threatening.
The driver of the car stopped immediately, and is cooperating with the investigation.
According to the Mission RCMP, after speaking with people at the scene, investigators believe that the car drove through a red light, hitting the girl while she was in the crosswalk.
Police do not believe that impairment was a factor, but are still looking into whether distracted driving may have played a role in the collision.
Any witnesses who have not yet spoken to police are asked to contact Mission RCMP at 604-826-7161.
Shots fired:
Mission RCMP were called to a house in the 34000 block of Ferndale Avenue on Aug. 29, after a passerby noted several shell casings on the road in front of the house.
The residence is well-known to police, and had been the subject of a Search Warrant in June of this year.
Officers located the shell casings on the roadway, and also found that the house had been struck by a bullet. Fortunately, no one was injured.
Investigators believe that the shooting occurred between about 3 a.m. and 4 a.m. that morning, but was not reported at the time. Police believe that the shooting was targeted, and there is no indication that the general public is at risk.
The investigation is ongoing, and anyone with information about this matter is asked to call Mission RCMP at 604-826-7161.
Head-on collision:
First responders in Mission attended to Dewdney Trunk Road near the Stave Falls Dam on Aug. 26 around 5:10 p.m, where a head-on collision had occurred.
A blue Dodge Ram pickup had been travelling west on Dewdney Trunk Road when an older green Toyota Tercel travelling eastbound entered the oncoming lane and collided head-on with the pickup.
The driver and passenger of the Toyota suffered significant, but non-life-threatening injuries, and the driver of the pickup was also injured.
All parties were taken to hospital. A small dog in the Toyota died as a result of the collision. Police believe that the wet roads may have caused the driver of the Toyota to lose control and drift into the oncoming lane.
As the rainy season approaches, police remind drivers that roads may be extra-slick when it rains after prolonged periods of dry weather. Drivers should slow down and leave extra distance between them and the vehicle in front of them.
