The City of Mission is asking for public feedback on the use of shipping containers in residential areas.
A survey is now open where residents can share their thoughts on the possibility, according to a news release from the city on Thursday (Feb. 19).
Mission is considering allowing the use of shipping containers for enclosed storage in residential areas.
The city is seeking feedback on which residential zones should permit shipping containers for storage, how many containers should be allowed per property, and aesthetic considerations, such as appearance and placement.
The 14-question survey is open until March 9 on engage.mission.ca.
Mayor Paul Horn says the city is aware of the different opinions on shipping containers as storage space within the community.
“In some of our neighbourhoods, they will present a ready solution to storage needs, but in others, they will simply not be a good fit. We would like to hear from people across all neighbourhoods as we move forward with considering policy changes in this area. Your input will help us to determine where shipping containers can be situated and how they could be used in a way that minimizes adverse impacts on neighbours,” Horn said in a news release.
The feedback will be presented to council at a future meeting.
