Mission’s new city-owned economic development corporation has named its CEO.
In a news release on Friday (Oct. 11), the City of Mission announced the appointment of Stacey Crawford as the first Chief Executive Officer for Mission Bridgehead Investment Corporation.
Nine board members were appointed to oversee the corporation in June and the board selected Crawford after an “extensive competitive process.”
Crawford was the Director of Economic Development for the city since 2009, overseeing the Mission's economic, tourism, and film development initiatives, including the Mission Waterfront Revitalization Master Plan.
In his role as CEO, Crawford will push Bridgehead’s strategic vision, which includes an initial focus on advancing the Waterfront Revitalization Initiative and facilitating the re-development of underutilized industrial lands.
“This role represents a remarkable opportunity to drive initiatives that will create lasting, positive impacts for the City of Mission. I am excited to collaborate with our community partners and key stakeholders to facilitate transformative projects that not only enhance our city’s vibrancy but also support sustainable growth for generations to come,” Crawford said in a news release
The corporation’s mandate is to drive opportunities for investment, promotion, and partnership in Mission. The corporation was formed in 2023 without an increase in property taxes.
Mission Mayor Paul Horn, who is also a Bridgehead board member, said it became clear to the entire board that the best person for the role was already a part of the team.
“No one knows Mission’s economic landscape like Stacey and no candidate could match his longstanding record of establishing great business relationships and opportunities. Under Stacey’s leadership, Bridgehead will be able to get to work very quickly,” Horn said.
Bridgehead board chair Ryan Laurin said Crawford’s deep roots in Mission and grasp of the key players, properties, and pulse of the city made the decision obvious.
“We went out to the market, interviewed others, but no one else had that mix of insight, grit, and commitment. Stacey’s the guy to push Bridgehead forward, and we’re ready to back him all the way,” Laurin said.
The City of Mission said there are no current plans to hire a new economic development director.
“The existing Economic Development team at the City has been seconded to Bridgehead to support the corporation as it takes the lead on economic development for the city. Duties that fall outside of Bridgehead have been incorporated into other functions throughout the City, including Planning and Corporate Administration. The secondment has been arranged for two years,” the city said.
