Mission RCMP arrested a 55-year-old Penticton man on July 30 after he allegedly drove into a police car and fled.

A 55-year-old Penticton man was arrested last Tuesday (July 30) after attempting to flee from Mission RCMP and ramming into a police car.

The detachment said a white Dodge Ram caught an officer's attention while driving slowly and failing to stay in its lane on Lougheed Highway near Norrish Avenue. After searching th license plate, police determined the truck owner was a prohibited driver.

Police say the pickup truck initially halted during a traffic stop but then reversed into the oncoming lane.

"As the officer pulled closer, the truck then drove forward into the police car hard enough to deploy the cruiser’s airbags," Mission RCMP said in a news release.

The driver ran and fled but police arrested him.

Mission RCMP say the man is being investigated for assaulting a police officer with a weapon, flight from police, driving while prohibited, and driving while under the influence of drugs.

Those with information are urged to call Mission RCMP at 604-826-7161.
