One man is in custody after allegedly shooting a gun into a unit of a Vedder Road townhouse complex early Friday morning (Nov. 1).
Chilliwack RCMP were calling it "an active incident" where a bullet reportedly went through the wall at the complex, north of Keith Wilson Road.
The call came into police just before 6 a.m.
"It was reported that the round came though the wall from a neighbouring unit," confirmed Cpl. Carmen Kiener, spokesperson for UFVRD in a press release around 11:30 a.m.
A flash bang was heard just before 10 a.m. and shortly after the man was taken into police custody.
He was arrested without incident and remains in police custody and the investigation is ongoing.
No injuries have been reported, according to Kiener.
The public was asked to stay away from the area as a portion of Vedder Road was shut down temporarily for safety reasons, RCMP said.
"Police are on scene at that location," Kiener said around 9:15 a.m. adding that the Integrated Emergency Response Team (IERT) had been called out to assist.
Witnesses say police cleared out the tenants of 5662 Vedder Rd. at about 8:20 a.m. asking them to keep quiet. Some businesses in the area were also evacuated.
