Schools in Mission and Abbotsford are closed on Monday (Feb. 3) as snowfall is expected to continue to impact the Fraser Valley.
A weather warning remained in effect until roughly 7:30 a.m. and snow is expected to taper off later in the morning, Environment Canada says.
Mission Public School District and Abbotsford School District announced school closures on Monday, while Chilliwack School District and Fraser-Cascade School District said schools will remain open.
University of the Fraser Valley facilities and campuses in Abbotsford, Chilliwack, Mission, Hope, and Clearbrook are also closed today.
In-person classes are cancelled while faculty, staff, and administrators will work online if possible.
"On-campus services at all campuses will not be operational, and all activities are cancelled for the day and evening," UFV said.
The City of Mission said facilities including Mission Leisure Centre, City Hall, Welton Common and fire hall administration are all closed as well.
"We had crews out all night focused on priority one routes and this will continue until these routes are clear before proceeding into priority two and then three. We are working 24/7 to help ensure the safety of our roads during this weather event," the city said.
The City of Abbotsford said curbside collection is cancelled for Monday due to the snow conditions.
The Environment Canada warning predicted between 10 and 20 cm for the Fraser Valley region over the weekend.
"The highest amounts will occur along a band of snow that will slide across the Fraser Valley," the warning reads.
Environment Canada also advises drivers to be cautious with accumulating snow making travel difficult in some locations.
