The losing streak for the Mission City Outlaws stretched to 16 games after defeats to the Langley Trappers, Chilliwack Jets, Ridge Meadows Flames and White Rock Whalers.
After losses to Port Coquitlam and Ridge Meadows on Jan. 17 and 18, the Outlaws dropped a 4-2 contest to the Langley Trappers at the Leisure Centre on Jan. 28.
Langley’s Bergen George opened the scoring in the first minute of the game, but Ben Leslie evened the score on the power play for Mission roughly 10 minutes later.
On another power play for the Outlaws late in the period, Langley found the back of the net with a shorthanded goal from Patrick Coopman to take a 2-1 lead into the locker room.
Ashton Holbech tied it up once again for Mission in the second period, but an answer from the Trappers gave them a 3-2 lead after 40 minutes.
Langley held on in the third period and added an empty-netter to clinch a 4-2 win. The Trappers narrowly outshot the Outlaws 38-37 in the meeting.
Mission faced the Harold Brittain Conference two-seed, the Chilliwack Jets, the following day (Jan. 26).
The Jets outshot the Outlaws 58-29 on their way to a 10-3 win. Danyil Denysenko was first star of the game with a hat trick to go along with three assists.
Each of Mission’s goals came on special teams. Max Wingrove scored shorthanded in the first period, Samuel Gerbrand netted a power play goal in the second and Cooper Crowe added another shorthanded tally in the third.
In a 4-1 loss to the Ridge Meadows Flames last Friday (Jan. 31), Mission netminder Jake Poblete stayed busy. Poblete made 60 saves in the loss and Wingrove scored the lone Outlaws' goal.
Mission fell 14-0 in a visit to White Rock the following night and were outshot 49-27.
The Outlaws sit 9-34-3 and sixth in the conference with two games remaining. The squad has been eliminated from playoff contention.
Mission faces off against the Abbotsford Pilots on Friday (Feb.7) at 7:30 p.m. before hosting the Aldergrove Kodiaks on Saturday (Feb. 8) at 6:45 p.m.
