The Mission Niners U8 Red team are the 2025 Joe Gluska Flag Football Invitational Champions after winning the two-day competition in Kelowna last weekend.
The Niners finished the event with a record of 7-1 – the only loss was to the Abbotsford squad who managed to score a last second touchdown.
Scoring touchdowns for the Niners on the weekend were offensive standouts Kaelym Purewall, Hudson Rushford, Jacob Leuzinger and Matthew Stone. Center Oliver Walsh was at his best, making sure the offence stayed on track by extending drives and giving a tired defence some much needed time to rest.
Mission’s defensive standouts included Tommy Johnson, Boden Hurd and Sterling Moreman. The defence battled the Kelowna heat all weekend, making their presence felt to opposing offences.
The Niners, who were missing key players Jace Macrae and Bennet Lester during the championship tournament, finished in first place in the VCFL regular season with a record of 15-2-1.
Mission Niners Football registration for the fall tackle and U8 flag season is now open for players ages 5 -13. Email ninersregistrar@gmail.com for more information.
