Mission’s U14 Division 3 girls soccer team won the league finals in dramatic fashion last week.
On June 8, the squad took on the Coquitlam soccer club in the coastal soccer final. The girls were up two goals (one scored by Taylor Clarke and one by Brixton Haffner-Bruce) in the first half, but eventually fell behind 4-2 in the second half.
In the final 10 minutes of regulation time, Mission scored a pair of goals – one by Adelyn Norrie and one, in the final minute of play, by Clarke.
The championship game went to penalties
Mission’s Brooklynn Anderson took the first penalty kick, scoring into the top corner of the net. Coquitlam missed its first attempt.
Norrie scored on her attempt to give Mission a 2-0 lead, however, it was short-lived as Coquitlam managed to get one past Mission goalie Alexandria Meneghetti to make it 2-1.
The third Mission shooter was Brixton Haffner-Bruce, who barely missed skimming the top of the net.
Mission’s keeper saved the third attempt while Mission’s Navaeh Gardner scored to secure the victory.
