The Valley Huskers opened up the 2024 season with a statement win this past Saturday (July 27).
The Huskers played host to the Kamloops Broncos at Exhibition Stadium where they overwhelmed the visiting side with 51-7 thrashing
The first half was a bit of a back and forth battle with the Huskers putting up 21 points to Kamloops’ seven. The second half was a very different story though. The Huskers came out in dominant fashion to score 30 unanswered points and seal their week-one victory.
It was a great showing for Huskers quarterback Tyran Duval who completed 21 of his 30 passes for 332 yards and five passing touchdowns. Four of Duval’s five touchdowns were caught by Steven Koniuck who finished the game with 130 yards on six receptions.
Despite the team effort, head coach Bob Reist believes there is always room for improvement.
“It was a good start,” he said. “Some things to clean up, but it was a good start.”
The Huskers will regroup before a week two match-up on Saturday, Aug. 3. They will play host to the Okanagan Sun – the very team that eliminated them from last year’s playoffs – with kickoff going at 7 p.m. at Exhibition Stadium in Chilliwack.
