In what had to be considered a landslide vote, the Mission City and the District of Mission voted to amalgamate. Once the votes were tallied, the district vote count was 825 in favour of the move and 329 against. The city count was 561 to 241 in favour, according to the Oct. 8, 1969 edition of the newspaper. Victoria suggested the amalgamation be completed by November 1 of 1969 in order to allow for a municipal election in December to elect a mayor and six councillors to run the new area.
