Kelly Apostoliuk is seeking a seat on Mission’s council table.

Apostoliuk has lived and worked in Mission, in various capacities, for many years and that experience has allowed him to know and care a great deal for the local community.

“A lot of Missionites used to know me from the old Rona store in Mission, where I worked for many years,” he said.

Currently, he owns and operates Game Changers Buy & Sell, a store in downtown Mission which Apostoliuk says has a “diverse, inter-generational customer base of Missionites young and old.”

In the past, Apostoliuk has hosted game tournaments to collect donations of food and toys for the Christmas Bureau. He also works with youth at community Pokémon game tournaments.

“I am now running for city council, because I feel committed to the city of Mission where I have built my life. As a resident and business owner, I would like to step up and fulfill an important role in Mission’s current development,” he said.

“Our small town is undergoing a lot of growth currently, and I believe that a focus on community, rather than tax revenues, will guide us through this development while still retaining what makes our city Mission,” Apostoliuk added.

“New buildings and homes are sprouting up at breakneck speed. This growth can be a good thing if our community support grows, as well. I believe that community support can be nurtured, by ensuring that residents in all stages of life are supported with places to gather and meet other Missionites.

Other issues that Apostoliuk feel need to be addressed include:

Assessing education and health infrastructure to determine if Mission is ready for new developments;

Assess parks and recreation centres to ensure they adequately support the increasing population;

Research and implement viable solutions to keep Mission clean and family-friendly.
