Mission votes: Final list of election candidates released

Four mayoral candidates, 19 for council, five for school trustees and several in the FVRD

The nomination period is over and the official list of Mission candidates has been confirmed for the Oct. 20 municipal election.

There are four candidates running for mayor, 19 candidates seeking one of six councillor seats, and five candidates for four school trustee positions.

Randy Hawes (incumbent) will attempt to retain his seat as mayor against current councillor Pam Alexis and challengers Iain Gilfillan and Wyatt Scott.

The battle for the six council seats appears to be a wide open affair as incumbents Carol Hamilton, Jim Hinds and Danny Plecas will try to regain their seats against challengers Kelly Apostoliuk, Cal Crawford, Mark Davies, Jag Gill, Anne Graham, Ken Herar, Jennifer Holmes, Jeff Jewell, Doug Lifford, Mike Nenn, Tracey Lee Norman, Carla Paterson-Janis, Alan Pedersen, Ashley Sharpe, Neil Smith and Dave Westley.

Mission will be electing four school trustee positions and, there are five candidates in the mix.

Candidates include incumbents Randy Cairns, Tracy Loffler and Rick McKamey along with new challengers Julia Renkema and Douglas McNeill.

Incumbent Shelley Carter will be challenged by Earl Babich for the rural seat in school district 75.

In the FVRD Electoral Area C, three candidates – Wendy Bales, Annie Silver and Mel Waardenburg – will battle it out. Electoral Area C includes the communities of Hemlock Valley, a portion of Harrison Mills, Lake Errock, and Morris Valley.

In FVRD Electoral Area F (McConnell Creek - Hatzic Prairie) incumbent Ray Boucher will defend his seat against Hugh Davidson.

In Electoral Area G (Nicomen Island – Deroche – Dewdney - Hatzic Island) Laurie Larson will challenge incumbent Al Stobbart.

This year’s campaign officially begins on Sept. 22 with the public going to the polls on Oct. 20.
