Two men were sent to hospital in serious condition following an early morning head-on crash on Lougheed Highway east of Mission.
The collision occurred near Brooks Road, just east of the Deroche Bridge, at approximately 3:15 a.m. on Aug. 21, according to a Mission RCMP press release. It led to a full closure of the highway.
Officers arrived to find a Chevrolet Cavalier collided with a small-camperized bus. The two men in the Cavalier were seriously injured, while occupants of the bus received minor injuries.
Mission RCMP believe impaired driving played a significant role in the collision.
“The initial evidence in this investigation indicates that the Cavalier was travelling in the wrong lane at the time of the collision,” says Const. Harrison Mohr with Mission RCMP. “The driver of the Cavalier sustained serious and possibly life-altering injuries, and is being investigated for driving while impaired.”
The Lower Mainland RCMP’s Integrated Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Service (ICARS) were called in to investigate alongside Mission RCMP’s Traffic Services unit.
“This was a tragic night for everyone involved. Bottom line - don’t drink and drive. People get hurt. It’s just not worth it.”
