One southbound lane through the George Massey Tunnel will be closed this weekend to accommodate BC Hydro repairs.

Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure is advising drivers that the southbound slow lane of Highway 99 will be closed for 24 hours over the weekend, from 9:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 13 until 9:30 p.m. on Sunday, April 14.

The closure will allow BC Hydro to permanently repair its equipment within the tunnel, addressing a temporary repair completed on March 20 that at the time required an immediate slow-lane closure.

The ministry notes there is no public safety issue relating to the repair.

“During this lane closure, drivers should plan for delays southbound on Highway 99 at the George Massey Tunnel and to consider an alternative route,” the ministry states in a press release.

“Drivers are asked to obey signs and traffic-control personnel, and to use caution near roadside workers.”

Closure updates will be available at drivebc.ca.
