Langley firefighters use ladder truck to pull a toddler out of a Murrayville tree Thursday evening

Township of Langley firefighters came to the aid of a toddler trapped in a 100-foot tree in Murrayville yesterday evening.

At about 7:35 p.m., Thursday, Langley Township firefighters arrived in scene on 222nd Street just south of 48th Avenue to find a small child stuck in a tall tree after climbing up and being unable to get down.

Deputy Fire Chief Russell Jenkins said three apparatuses came to aid in the rescue after crews were flagged down for help.

“There was a bit of a language barrier so crews had to rely on a family member to communicate with the boy and advise him to stay put and wait,” Jenkins explained.

The boy was approximately 35 feet high in an evergreen tree, but Jenkins said crews were able to reach the toddler by a fire department ladder truck and carry him safely down.

“To his credit, he stayed calm and was waving to people as he was being carried,” Jenkins said.

The Deputy Fire Chief added that there were no injuries and called it a “good incident,” noting the circumstances were highly unusual for Township fire crews to deal with.
