Abbotsford Agrifair’s 2020 event still in the works

Fair will respect COVID-19 health directives, but continuing plans in hope ban will be lifted

Abbotsford Agrifair’s organizers are still planning ahead to the 2020 event in hopes the provincial COVID-19 health ban on large gatherings is lifted by the summer.

“During these times of challenges and changes, Agrifair’s Board and staff wish to reassure you that plans for our 2020 fair are still underway,” says a press release from Agrifair’s president, Bob Street. “It is our goal to be ready to give you, our stakeholders, the Best Little Country Fair on Earth this summer, should the ban be lifted.”

Although they are planning to go ahead with the event, Street said they will respect the authority of municipal, provincial and federal health directives, should a ban stay in place.

“Since 1911, there have been only two occasions on which the Abbotsford Agrifair was not able to open,” Street said. “Fairs are heritage organizations and a community staple, and together we are stronger.

“We believe that, come summer should gatherings be embraced again, people will want to get out and enjoy themselves, spend time with their families, and support local business. Agrifair will be the place to do that.”

The organizers are asking for the trust and support of their sponsors, and for interested parties to email questions to agrifair@telus.net.

“In the meantime, let’s all remain healthy and optimistic for a bright summer full of fun activities!”
