Robert Hillier of Abbotsford has been charged with three child pornography offences.

A 37-year-old Abbotsford man has been charged with three child pornography offences following an investigation that began last October.

Robert Gordon Hillier was arrested Tuesday and has since been charged with accessing child porn, possessing child porn, and making child porn available.

Abbotsford Police Const. Ian MacDonald said investigators received information in October that an internet subscriber was uploading images of child sexual abuse.

In the months that followed, a suspect was identified in connection to that account, MacDonald said.

The major crime unit of the Abbotsford Police Department (APD) executed a search warrant at the residence on Jan. 12 and seized various computer devices and cellphones.

MacDonald said an examination of the materials revealed thousands of child pornography images and videos.

Information posted online indicates that Hillier is the owner of a vaping (electronic cigarettes) business in Abbotsford, and is, or has been, a grocery store cashier.

He has been released from custody under several court-ordered conditions, including:

• not to communicate or be alone with anyone under the age of 18;

• not to attend public places, such as parks and recreation centres, where kids under the age of 18 are expected to be, unless he’s in the company of an approved adult;

• not to possess or use an electronic device capable of accessing the internet; and

• not to engage in any activity that involves contact or communication, using a computer system, with kids under the age of 18.

Anyone with information about this investigation is asked to contact the APD at 604-859-5225 or text abbypd (222973).
