Abbotsford Police Department is asking the public to stay out of evacuated areas.

According to a Tuesday afternoon (Nov. 16) tweet, Abby PD officers had to rescue four youths who kayaked into an area with swift rising water, and a tweet sent out two hours before the kayaking incident suggested citizens were attempting to access evacuated areas within the Sumas Prairie.

“Some are attempting to gain access for travel and to take pictures,” the tweet read. “This is impacting first responders rescue efforts. Please stay clear.”
