Transit drivers are being thanked for their hard work and dedication today.
March 18 is Transit Driver Appreciation Day (TDAD), in recognition of the men and women who get people from A to B every day.
BC Transit launched a digital campaign using the hashtags #TDAD and #ThanksTransit, but riders can also just thank their drivers as they get off the bus on Thursday.
“On March 18, help us give thanks to the hard-working bus drivers across the province, as transit systems throughout North America join together to celebrate TDAD,” according to BC Transit.
It’s an annual tribute that BC Transit has adopted for March 18, that dates back to 1662 when transit was introduced in France.
“Transit drivers keep this province moving, getting people to school, work and other key places from the grocery store to a doctor’s appointment,” said Rob Fleming, Minister of Transportation and Infrastructure. “Let’s show our appreciation and thank all BC transit drivers for their hard work and dedication in serving the public, especially after showing incredible resilience throughout the pandemic this past year.”
Chilliwack Mayor Ken Popove gave drivers a shout-out for what they do.
“I wanted to say thank you for your hard work and dedication to get people where they need to go — especially during this challenging time,” Popove said.
