A snowfall warning has been issued for Abbotsford and Chilliwack.

The warning was issued at 4 p.m., and follows a special weather statement that had been in effect for the area.

Environment Canada's current forecast suggests some areas could see as much as 15 centimetres of the white stuff, with around five centimetres more likely for Abbotsford and Chilliwack

The statement reads:

"An area of low pressure will produce bands of snow over the south coast tonight and Tuesday. Snowfall amounts will be highly variable. High elevation areas north of the Fraser River will be affected by heavier bands of snow and can expect 10 to 15 cm of snow tonight and Tuesday. Communities south of the Fraser River, such as Abbotsford and Chilliwack, will likely receive lesser amounts of snow with totals near 5 cm. Snow will become mixed with rain Tuesday afternoon as temperatures rise."

"Rapidly accumulating snow could make travel difficult over some locations. If visibility is reduced while driving, slow down, watch for tail lights ahead and be prepared to stop.""Snowfall warnings are issued when significant snowfall is expected.
