UPDATE: No life-threatening injuries after high-velocity, head-on crash on Lougheed Highway

One transported to Chilliwack General Hospital, RCMP spokesperson said

A 48-year-old Agassiz man was transported to Chilliwack General Hospital with no serious injuries following a high-velocity crash on Lougheed Highway on Monday, Dec. 21.

Agassiz firefighters, EHS and RCMP were on the scene of the afternoon crash. According to RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Mike Rail, one of the vehicles lost control on the snowy road and crashed head-on with another vehicle near Mount Woodside Forest Road. There were no life-threatening injuries and the other driver, a 37-year-old woman from Chilliwack, was treated on the scene. No one was trapped inside either vehicle.

“We want to remind everyone that winter travelling conditions are here,” Rail said in a statement. “Ensure that you are driving on approved winter tires and slow down.”

Agassiz firefighters advise motorists to stay away from Lougheed highway near Mount Woodside Forest Service Road.

The sudden shift into winter weather wreaked havoc on roads across the Lower Mainland. The afternoon snowfall closed off the Coquihalla highway due to the heavy snow, low visibility and multiple vehicle incidents.
