An impaired driving investigation led to the arrest of 35-year-old Burnaby man wanted on a Canada-wide warrant.

According to Upper Fraser Valley Regional Detachment spokesperson Cpl. Mike Rail, an officer approached a driver exiting Highway 9, driving erratically and entering a service station parking lot on the 52000 block of Yale Road in Rosedale in the early hours of Thursday, July 15. The officer noticed symptoms of impairment and upon investigation identified the man as having an outstanding warrant.

During the arrest, Mounties seized a handgun, ammunition, liquor and illegal drugs.

After reviewing evidence, the RCMP will forward the investigation in a report to the B.C. Prosecution Service for their assessment of criminal charges.

“A traffic check can quickly become a dangerous situation,” Rail said. “It is imperative officers remain alert and fall back to our training when circumstances demand.”
