Cory Cassel has been elected to represent Area G, which includes Deroche, Nicomen Island, Dewdney and Hatzic Island on the Fraser Valley Regional District board.

This is based on preliminary results released by the FVRD. The term of office for this position is four years, starting on Nov. 7.

Preliminary results for the 2022 Local General Election include:

• Electoral Area A: Diane Johnson (Acclaimed)

• Electoral Area B: Peter Adamo

• Electoral Area C: Mel Waardenburg

• Electoral Area D: Bill Dickey (Acclaimed)

• Electoral Area E: Patti MacAhonic (Acclaimed)

• Electoral Area F: Hugh Davidson, Acclaimed)

• Electoral Area G: Cory Cassel

• Electoral Area H: Taryn Dixon

Mission will send two members of its council to sit on the board.

Cassel told the Record that his family has called this area home since the 1940s when his grandfather purchased property in Deroche, the property where the family continues to reside and will call home forever.

Cassel says public safety is his number one concern for the residents of the electoral area, which borders the cities of Mission, Abbotsford and Chilliwack.

“From Highway 7 corridor improvements, to ground water management and flood prevention; from the threat of wildfires, to access to medical services and emergency paramedics, the residents of Area G need to have their voices heard and I will be a strong advocate to senior levels of government on their behalf,” he stated in a news release.

He added that he will work collaboratively and communicate proactively with neighbouring municipalities, First Nations and Mission Public Schools to bring attention and find solutions to the challenges in our region.

Al Stobbart had represented Area G on the FVRD Board since 2008 and recently announced he was not running for another term as he is retiring.
