Four packages containing a cellphone and charger, marijuana, heroin, tobacco and mushrooms were seized at Mission Institution on May 31 and June 2.

Correctional Service of Canada (CSC) estimates the total value of the goods is $11,500. Police have been notified and the institution is investigating.

CSC uses a number of tools to prevent drugs from entering its institutions, including ion scanners and dogs to detect drugs. There is also a tip line 1-866-780-3784 for callers who want to remain anonymous and have information on activities that may be related to drug use or trafficking that may threaten the safety and security of inmates, visitors, or staff at CSC institutions.

Mission Institution is a medium security federal facility.
