UPDATE: Daughter of Lower Mainland fire captain taken off life support

Madeline Stroup is second fatality from crash July 26 in Abbotsford

A woman who was airlifted to hospital after a two-car collision in Abbotsford on July 26 has now died of her injuries.

Madeline Stroup is the second person to pass away as a result of the crash. Her boyfriend, Hayden Turcotte, 22, died on the day of the collision, which took place at about 3:30 p.m. at Marion and Wells Line roads on Sumas Prairie.

Stroup is the daughter of Capt. Dean Stroup of the Burnaby Fire Department and Tara Stroup, an emergency program officer for the Port Coquitlam Fire Department.

On the day of the crash, Stroup, Turcotte and another friend, Tyrell Gait, were travelling to pick up another friend and head to the Stroup family cabin when their pickup truck collided with an SUV.

Gait and the lone occupant of the SUV, a man in his 7os, survived the incident with relatively minor injuries.

Stroup was airlifted to hospital, where she was placed in an induced coma, and was taken off life support over the weekend.

The Burnaby Fire Department has started a GoFundMe page (search “The Stroup Family” at gofundme.com) to assist the family. The page indicates that the funds will go towards hospital costs, counselling for the family, and funeral expenses for Stroup and Turcotte.

A donation will also be made to New Westminster’s Honour House, which provides a “home away from home” for armed forces members, veterans and emergency services personnel to stay while they are receiving medical care and treatment.
