The Downtown Business Association (DBA) will receive a one-time $5,000 grant from the district to help alleviate this year’s costs for hanging baskets along Mission’s main thoroughfare.

Communities in Bloom has worked hard to promote beautification in the area, and it would be a step backwards if the district didn’t support this year’s efforts, commented Mayor James Atebe.

In addition to the grant, council is also asking the DBA to reassess its membership and consider increasing fees to make sure there is sufficient funding going forward to purchase and maintain the baskets, which cost the local business group $22,000 each year.
