Falconridge rapist won’t be living in Mission

Sex offender has moved from Mission to a halfway house in Surrey.

A high-risk sex offender won’t be living in Mission after all, according to a statement made by Mission RCMP Friday morning.

Andrew Aurie Jefferson, 26, has a criminal record involving sexual-related offences against adult females. He moved to Surrey from Mission, as it’s believed he can be better watched at the Surrey halfway house.

Jefferson terrorized a Calgary neighbourhood in 2006 with a series of armed street attacks, gaining the nickname the “Falconridge rapist”.

Surrey Mayor Dianne Watts is infuriated that Jefferson has been allowed to relocate here.

“This type of thing just infuriates me to no end,” Watts said Friday. “The safety of the residents and the community should always trump those of a convicted sex offender.”

Watts said as his crimes occurred in Calgary, he shouldn’t even be in this province.

On April 8, 2006, a 19-year-old woman was grabbed as she was walking along a street, dragged behind a condo and raped.

A month later on May 10, a 35-year-old woman was grabbed by the neck as she was leaving a 7-Eleven store, dragged to a footpath and raped.

Jefferson was convicted in 2007 of three separate attacks.

He was sentenced to six years in prison after being convicted for sexually assaulting two women with knives in April and May 2006, as well as assaulting another woman in March.

According to the RCMP, Jefferson’s method is to randomly grab a female from behind who is walking down the street and threatens to kill her with a knife if she screams.

Just eight months ago, Jefferson was deemed a high risk to reoffend by the Parole Board of Canada and was denied an application for early release.

That report showed Jefferson had racked up five institutional charges and twice failed to finish sexual offender counseling.

Jefferson must report to the Surrey RCMP detachment daily and will be monitored by a probation officer.

He has several conditions of his parole:

• have no contact with the victims or families

• no possession of knives except to prepare and consume food

• shall not carry, own or possess any weapons;

• no alcohol or controlled substances

• shall not enter any place where alcohol is the primary commodity for sale

• he must remain in his home between 10 p.m. and 7 a.m. daily except for work.

Jefferson is a Caucasian male, 5’9″ tall and weighs 83 kg (183 lb). He has brown hair and green eyes.

If you see Jefferson violating any of these conditions, do not approach him. Call Surrey RCMP at 604-599-0502.
