Forty firefighters helped douse a wildfire that threatened to spread to Chilliwack’s Promontory neighbourhood.
The fire broke out in a building along the 46,000 block of Chilliwack Lake Road around 5:15 p.m. Thursday and jumped into the nearby woods. According to a Chilliwack Fire Department news release, it started moving up the steep mountain slope directly above the property, heading toward the Bridle Ridge area of Promontory. But crews from 1, 2, 4, 5 and 6 set up a water supply and attacked it with several hose streams.
The B.C. Wildfire Service provided ground and aerial support, and crews from the Chilliwack River Valley Fire Department also assisted.
“The efforts of Chilliwack fire crews deploying water down onto the fire from Bridle Ridge Crescent, combined with helicopter water drops and ground crews from BCWS, successfully contained the fire, preventing further spread upslope towards homes on Bridle Ridge Crescent,” the news release noted. “Crews remained on scene late into the evening continuing with extinguishing of hot spots and reinforcing a containment perimeter on the fire.”
Crews are monitoring the area today and no additional fire activity has been reported.
“The incredible teamwork displayed by all crews on the scene contributed in no small part to the successful outcome of this fire and the prevention of further damage and impact to the residents of the Promontory area,” the news release said.
No civilian or firefighter injuries were reported.
