Mike Norden is, of course, upset at being assaulted in downtown Mission on the weekend.

But to him, he really just wants action so other people don’t have to go through what happened to him.

Norden was the victim of an assault Saturday around 12:30 p.m. in the parking lot of a gas station at Horne Street.

Norden was putting up posters advertising a community event when he heard a man yelling at him from behind.

Norden then turned around the man shouted: “What are you staring at?”

Norden admitted he responded with anger, but he says he didn’t deserve what happened next.

The man put down his bicycle and “haymakered” Norden, followed by several other blows to his face, leaving him bloodied.

Norden told some children who were standing nearby to run and then yelled out to anyone to call 911.

The man who threw the punches then fled the scene.

“Let’s address this,” Norden told the Record. “Let’s fix this mess. I want to be able to walk around downtown and feel safe. Right now, I don’t.”

Norden was shaken up by the incident, which took place just hours before his 30th high school reunion.

“Nice timing, isn’t it,” Norden said.

Police arrived and took Norden’s statement. In an email to the Record, Mission RCMP said the suspect was still at large and investigators are awaiting surveillance video from a nearby business, although Norden had already seen it and provided a screenshot of the suspect to the Record.

The suspect is described as being white, weighing 180 pounds, wearing a green T-shirt and brown cargo pants at the time, and also having long facial and beard hair with many piercings on his face.

If anyone witnessed the altercation and may have evidence of any kind, they are encouraged to let the Mission RCMP know and may contact the office at 604-826-7161.
