Forum theatre organizing meeting tonight at HPSS

A unique way for youth to express themselves is getting off the ground tonight in the Heritage Park cafeteria.

One of the lead organizations helping bring the idea to life is Mission Restorative Resolutions (MRR).

“The reason we’re doing this is because the [forum theatre] we did last February had such incredible outcomes,” said Darryl Gehlen, MRR manager.

Youth who spoke started to become more self-aware, learn life skills and establish a yet-undiscovered connection to the community.

“Forum theatre is just a vehicle for those outcomes.”

This event sees youth perform without a script and express themselves about whatever they are feeling or thinking, said Gehlen, but the “line between the audience and the actors is blurred.”

The crowd is encouraged to take part in the play, he continued.

Tonight’s event is a planning initiative where interested parties can learn more about forum theatre and get involved in a number of capacities, Gehlen said, including helping create a non-profit society that would ensure the event is sustainable.

The meeting happens at 6:30 p.m. The school is located at 33700 Prentis Ave.
