Habitat for Humanity Greater Vancouver have nearly doubled their original fundraising goal to help with the construction of 11 homes in Mission.

The May fundraiser, dubbed Women Build 2021, has had 180 women fundraising and volunteering their time to build affordable homes for families, with a goal of bringing in $50,000.

“The full group has raised over $97,000 now and it is still growing!” said Lyn Duke, the community events manager.

The non-profit organization made 11 different Women Build Days, which invited anyone able to raise $250 to come and join in the team-building exercise.

The mother-and-daughter build in celebration of Mother’s Day on May 7 was able to raise $17,000 alone.

The top fundraiser, whether an individual or team, will be given a special award at the end of the month.

All the dates have been booked full, but interested parties can sign up for a waitlist if a spot opens up.

Future build dates are: Thursday, May 13, Monday, May 17, Wednesday, May 19, Thursday, May 27, Saturday, May 29 and Saturday, June 19.
