The Fraser Valley Regional District has lifted the evacuation order for the properties located at 8400 Shook Road.

The evacuation order for all properties located at 8400 Shook Road, Hatzic Island, has been cancelled.

The Fraser Valley Regional District issued the cancellation today (Dec. 6). The order was first put in place on Nov. 30 as flooding issues had severely impacted properties at the Everglades Resort.

According to the cancellation order, “the water level has receded significantly and there is no immediate risk to life and property at this time.”

It goes on to say a an evacuation order may need to be reissued if conditions change.

Te FVRD also offered these guidelines to those returning to their homes:

– Determine if you need fuel in your vehicle before returning to the community;

– Consider if groceries and food providers in your community were impacted. If so, bring at least three days of food home and essential supplies home with you (e.g. medications, pet supplies) because the local grocers may not have adequate stock;

– Do not enter if you see any buckled walls or floors;

– Check for any damage to electrical or gas equipment that may have been caused by floodwater. Have a licenced contractor inspect any lines if needed prior to use;

– Find a licensed contractor at Technical Safety BC;

– Open all doors and windows to air out your house;

– Throw out all perishable food items immediately;

– Confirm with your water and sewer provider about the safety and functionality of the systems.

The provincial government has declared the event eligible for Disaster Financial Assistance (DFA). The Province administers the DFA. Once declared, the DFA program may compensate applicants for essential uninsurable losses to permanent residences and small businesses.
