The weather has caused the city’s garbage contractor, GFL Environmental, to fall behind on its pickups last week. They are asking anyone with missed collections to place their garbage curbside before 8 a.m. tomorrow morning, Jan. 10.

“Challenges related to snow, ice, flooding, and staff illness have resulted in delays in our regular curbside collection schedule,” says the City of Mission website. “If your collection was missed this past week, we appreciate your patience at this time and apologize for the inconvenience.”

They add that unless directly advised by the contractor or city, missed recycling, compost or glass collection will have to wait until the next scheduled collection day.

If your compost bin is full, 80-L bins with a tight-fitting lid and marked with an orange sticker (used for yard waste) and paper or compostable plastic bags may also be used.

The contractor is working hard to maintain its schedule and catch up, according to the city, adding missed collections should be reported directly to curbsidecontractor@mission.ca.

Residents can also call 604-820-6487 to report missed pickups, but are advised the line will likely be very busy.
