Abbotsford’s longest-serving councilor has confirmed that he will seek the BC Liberal Party nomination for the Abbotsford-Mission riding.
Gibson, who has served three decades on council, also teaches at the School of Business at the University of the Fraser Valley.
“I’m confident that I have the skills and experience needed to be a strong representative for Abbotsford-Mission,” Gibson said.
“I want to make sure Abbotsford-Mission continues to have a representative that will work with Premier Christy Clark to create an economic climate for job creation in our province.”
He also said that he knows both communities well and has lived in the riding for over 12 years. He currently teaches at both Abbotsford and Mission campuses of UFV and has been a member of many inter-municipal committees during his politicalcareer.
Gibson currently serves as chair of the Abbotsford-Mission Transit committee and is a member of the Fraser Valley Regional District board and the Fraser Valley Regional Library.
“I sincerely believe the BC Liberals represent a strong free enterprise alternative to the NDP and that the current renewal is making the Liberals attractive to increasingly more British Columbians.”
Gibson said he is committing to offices in both communities to ensure convenient access to constituents.
“I’m looking forward to the challenges of serving as an MLA and will be fully accessible to residents regarding provincial issues.”
He is married to Joy and they have two adult daughters and one grandson. They are expecting their second grandchild at the end of December.
Gibson is well known as a runner and recently ran the Victoria Marathon in just over four hours and was one of a handful of participants earlier this year who completed in the Run for Water 55 km Ultra Marathon.
The Liberal nomination meeting is set for Thursday, Dec. 6.
Gibson is not the only municipal politician who is seeking the Liberal nomination. Mission Coun. Tony Luck has also announced his intentions to vye for the party's support for the Abbotsford-Mission riding.
