Green Party boasts four candidates with the last name Green

Only one candidate with surname Green has run for another major party in past two elections

The Green Party has an improbable affinity for candidates with one defining characteristic: the last name “Green.”

The party is running four Green-named candidates this year. By contrast, only one other candidate for the four other major parties has that surname.

In Montreal, the Greens are running a pair of Greens: Daniel Green in Outremont and Robert Green in Notre-Dame-de-Grace. Judy Green is running for the party in West Nova. And Arthur Green is the Green candidate in Chilliwack-Hope.

Last federal election, the party ran three Greens and one “Greene.” They included two of this year’s candidates (Arthur and Daniel), along with Bill Green and Brendon Greene.

No other party shows anywhere close to the same penchant for Green-named candidates. The NDP’s Matthew Green is the only such named candidate this year among the NDP, Liberals, Conservatives and People’s Party. In 2015, no party ran a candidate with the last name Green.
