Hatzic Island is now under an evacuation order.

Shortly after the City of Mission rescinded its evacuation order for the properties on Benbow Street, the Fraser Valley Regional District issued a new order for all the units located at 8400 Shook Road.

According to the announcement, the order was issued due to “immediate danger to life, safety and health because of the atmospheric river event and heavy rainfall causing overland flooding.”

Residents are being told to leave the evacuation area immediately.

The FVRD suggest residents:

Be ready with 72 hours of emergency supplies;

Close all windows and doors;

Shut of gas and electrical appliances, but leave refrigerators and freezers on;

Close gates and latch but do not lock;

Gather your family, assist a neighbour or someone else who needs help;

Take critical items if they are immediately available (medicine ID, cash, keys);

Take pets in kennels or on leashes;

Don’t use more vehicles than you have to.

If you cannot self-transport and you have no help, call FVRD emergency operations centre at 778-704-0400 or 911.

Self register with Emergency Support Services at ess.gov.bc.ca to report that you have safely left the area. By registering, you will be eligible for emergency shelter and food if needed.
