Inmate hospitalized after assault at Kent Institution in Agassiz

The RCMP and CSC are looking into a recent assault at Kent Institution that hospitalized an inmate.

Multiple assailants have been identified in a recent assault at Kent Institution in Agassiz. 

On Wednesday, Aug. 21, an inmate was assaulted at the maximum-security institution and was transported to outside hospital foo treatment after being evaluated by staff. 

The Agassiz RCMP and Correctional Service Canada (CSC) are investigating the incident, and action has been taken against the assailants. No other staff members or inmates wore injured during the incident. 

"The safety and security of institutions, their staff, and the public remains the highest priority in the operations of the federal correctional system," the CSC stated. "In order to improve practices aimed at preventing this type of incident, the Correctional Service of Canada will review the circumstances of the incident and take the appropriate measures."
