Invasive plant makes way to Hatzic Lake

Public information meeting organized for Nov. 26

A public information is being held next week at Hatzic Prairie Hall to discuss an invasive plant that is overwhelming Hatzic Lake.

Flowering Rush has been in the lake for two years and is progressively moving and propagating on land and water. There is already a 100-foot mass in the water.

The reed is affecting the way water travels in and out of the lake as well as the dikes, said Nancy Janis, a volunteer with the Dewdney Area Improvement District.

At the meeting, there will be information about the plant, what is being done about it, and how volunteers can get involved.

The meeting on Nov. 26 from 7 to 8:30 p.m. is being hosted by the Ministry of Forest, Lands and Natural Resource Operations.

Hatzic Prairie Hall is located at 10845 Farms Road.
