Man hit by train will survive

A 49-year-old Mission resident is expected to survive after he was hit by a train Monday night, just west of the Mission Hills shopping centre on the north side of the tracks.

Around 8:40 p.m., the train conductor saw a man on the tracks and blew the whistle. The man, who appeared to be observing the train, didn’t move back far enough, said Sgt. Miriam Dickson, noting the train had slowed down to about 50 km/h as it passed.

The victim has taken to Royal Columbian Hospital via air ambulance with broken bones and abdominal injuries.
