A Mission dragracer ousted the back-to-back world champion to win another Wally trophy at a National Hot Rod Association event on May 2.

Justin Bond went a quarter-mile in 5.738 seconds, travelling at 249.49 miles per hour to claim victory over Stevie “Fast” Jackson on his home turf at the Atlanta Dragway for the Lucas Oil NHRA Southern Nationals.

Bond qualified third, then beat Alex Laughlin, Dwayne Wolfe and Brandon Snider to make the final round.

His victory against the Jackson, was won on a “holeshot,” announcers described, meaning Bond had the stronger start to get up to racing speed. He posted a reaction time of .038 seconds in the championship round.

The Atlanta event was the second of the 2021 E3 Spark Plugs NHRA Pro Mod Drag Racing Series season. Bond was the runner up in the season’s opening event.

This is Bond’s second career victory and Wally trophy, and comes off a breakout year where he won the 2020 NHRA Pro Mod series in Houston in October, 2020, and set a world record for the fastest pass in March, 2020.

He is the owner and founder of JBS Equipment, an agricultural-machinery manufacturer in Mission, B.C.

Bond’s Bahrain 1 – the Camaro he drives – gets its name because the Sheik of Bahrain is a major sponsor of the team.

He is currently competing in the NGK Spark Plugs NHRA Four-Wide Nationals, which takes place from May 14 to 16 in North Carolina.
